For Jake, art class was a double edged sword; while it offered a place where he felt free to express himself, drawing had been a source of constant frustration. Thankfully, art often has a trick or two up its sleeve – and more often than not, the magic is in the medium.

Jake had never worked with drawing ink as a medium before. With soft-brush in hand and ink-pots opened, his output transformed from rare, small pencil drawings to a prolific turnaround of imaginative ink sketches. His abstracted and colourful depiction of a geometrically patterned snake could grace any number of contemporary album covers, illustrating how we all miss out when pencil skills serve to hide the vibrant riches of another unique imagination.
